Our lives are a continuous process of change, some small some large, but many of us will also be facing transitions. So, at this time of the year, are you going through a transition or a change, and what’s the difference? How do you prepare or cope with either?
Briefly, a change is external, a one-time occurrence, such as buying a new car, changing a job, or moving a home; a shift from one “thing” (person or place) to another. A transition, often precedes a change, is internal and an ongoing process of dealing with change, letting go of how things were and embracing how things might become; an internal shift from one state to another.
As humans, we collectively go through changes and transition, economically, politically, the way business is conducted, trade, the use of technology and even climate change. We each try to cope individually with the changing times during which we live, often missing the transition that we are in, because our perspective can often be limited to, or focused primarily on, our personal lives; unable to see the bigger picture.
The actions we take, as we respond to change, whether willed or force upon us; may have profound long-term consequences. This is true for societies as well as individuals.
Making a decision depends on context in other words your perspective including your sense of well-being; perspective changes with “time”. How you respond now, may be different from how you responded to a similar situation in the past. I do not mean linear time only – but consider “transitional time”: at what point in “life” are you at now? Studying, single, married, divorced, widowed, in a job, out of job starting a family, retired etc. Our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings change at each point in “time”.
If you change your point of view, even by mentally going back or forward in time, you will have a different perspective! It is this willingness to change our perspective, to question whether there is another perspective that can help us “see” matters more clearly – before we leap into an action.

What will mean for you, and your family? Do you understand that the world is already getting hotter and that over the next 80 years some parts of the world will become too hot to live in? Should your sunscreen be more than SPF 15 or less? What about the long term effects of toxins in our diet on our health? Is it time to seriously think about organic whole foods? Do you care if your personal care products are sulphate, fluoride, and paraben free? Why most supplements should be removed – as they are just chemicals? What are food state supplements? Is HRT safe, or not? And what about driver-less cars, are you ready to accept them?
Being aware of all those different aspects is important because it affects how we live and cope with our future. Your personal growth is about holistic awareness; it is also about collective shaping of the future, as our societies change.
