What I Learned After 20 Years of Podcasting
When I started Unbox The Podcast back in 2005, the word “podcast” was barely known. It began quietly: a microphone, a story, and an intention to make the enigmatic practical. I wanted to demystify the unseen layers of human experience and help people reconnect with their true selves.
What started as an experiment quickly became a journey that changed not only how I work, but who I am.
At the time, I was a holistic therapist and mentor helping people understand themselves beyond logic, through what I now call The Four Dimensions of Change – BEMA™ Methodology: Body, Emotions, Mind, and Accountability to Action. The podcast became an extension of that work, a bridge between the unconscious and the conscious. Over time, it grew into something much larger — a shared conversation about self-awareness, growth, and authentic living.
From quiet beginnings to a global voice
As a child, I was painfully shy. My mother used to say she could leave me sitting on the sofa and hours later find me in the same place, silent, still, watching. I never realised that silence would one day become my greatest asset. It taught me to listen deeply, to notice what others missed, to understand the spaces between words.
That curiosity stayed with me. I still remember my uncle Talaat, an avid reader who lived in Japan, nearly missing a flight because he wanted to finish a book. When he finally put it down, I picked it up — How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. That was the moment I understood connection wasn’t about talking. It was about listening.
And that became the heartbeat of this podcast.
Twenty years later, Unbox The Podcast has evolved from a few hundred curious listeners into a global community. Listeners now tune in from more than 54 countries, creating over 45,000 IAB-certified downloads and more than 200,000 unique listens. Those aren’t just numbers. They’re stories. They represent people listening with intent, reflecting, growing, and recognising themselves in these conversations.
The power of voice
Podcasting, for me, has always been voice to ear, soul to soul. Sound lingers in ways visuals can’t — it stays with us, it resonates. One of my most listened-to episodes was a conversation with my dear friend, Stewart Pearce, the Master of Voice. We spoke about resonance, truth, and the way sound can heal. You can’t fake your true note. Your authentic voice vibrates who you really are.
That realisation changed how I work. It showed me that the voice is a map — revealing where my clients are disconnected from themselves, where their truth hides beneath layers of conditioning.
That’s the essence of voice. It’s not just what is said. It’s the way our core resonates with it, helping us harmonise and heal, often without even realising it.
Evolving work, expanding reach
My work has evolved, just as I have. In the early days, I explored intuition, dreams, Sufism, past lives, health, and energy healing — making the enigmatic practical. Today, every episode is guided by my experience as a mentor and by the BEMA™ Methodology. Each conversation is designed to help you shift old stories and step into the life you want with clarity and confidence. I’ve also built a growing digital resource to serve you — meditations, self-growth tools, and guided visualisations now available on Buy Me a Coffee.
Community and authentic connection
Over time, my focus has deepened toward those who truly seek real change. That’s why I’ve created smaller, more intentional spaces; like the Unbox Collective, a private WhatsApp group where people can share openly and grow together. I limit my in-person workshops and mentor only a handful of clients each month so that I can stay closely involved in their growth. Between sessions, I stay connected with short voice or text messages to sustain their momentum.
This podcast is part of that same intention — a safe space for self-reflection, authentic leadership, and meaningful growth.
Looking ahead
As we mark this milestone, I want to thank every listener, client, and reader who has walked this path with me. You have shaped this journey through your questions, your stories, and your trust. In 2025, our theme is The Power of Your Story — because the stories we tell ourselves shape the lives we live.
And this isn’t the end. It’s a new beginning. There are new audio courses, meditations, and resources on the way — all to support your growth and help you keep unboxing. Voice and words are powerful instruments of healing. Whether spoken or written, they help us harmonise what’s within.
